Life changing is a big promise. Connect it with new year’s resolutions and we all become doubtful it will ever happen. At CRISTA Senior Living, we know you’ve had your share of new year’s resolutions going by the wayside. But what if you could do some things in the new year that would change your life? Would you be willing to try again?
Life Changing New Year’s Resolutions
We’ve come up with 10 not so common New Year’s Resolutions that could change your life.
- Forgive everyone: You’ve held on too long and it’s only hurting you, so let go of every resentment, grudge, perceived slight, and obvious injury. According to Mayo Clinic, forgiveness leads to better health in every way. Full time chaplains and lay chaplains are available for seniors at CRISTA Senior Living to talk and pray with as they work through forgiveness of others.
- Clear out the clutter: Enter into a new life of freedom as you get rid of the physical clutter where you live. This will lower your anxiety, reduce trip hazards, and make the possessions you most enjoy more visible.
- Write personal letters of appreciation: Write the birthdays of everyone who matters to you on your calendar and send them a card with a personal letter telling them what you appreciate about them and how much you love them.
- Take the vacation you’ve been putting off: CRISTA takes residents on regular outings in the Puget Sound region, but sometimes you want to go further than a bus can take you! Check out Road Scholar for small group tours that sound fun and fit your budget.
- Spend time outside every day: Even a short walk around the block or within your community will enliven your senses and renew your physical and mental health. Residents at CRISTA Senior Living enjoy manicured trails in our Shoreline campus and a paved trail next to Dyes Inlet in Silverdale.
- Make an intergenerational friend: Living on the same campus that houses King’s Schools and CRISTA Ministries gives residents at CRISTA Senior Living plenty of opportunities to make friends of all ages, but you can always find someone to befriend by volunteering at a school or in the community.
- Write your story: At Cristwood in Shoreline, we have a writing group that meets regularly to encourage each other! Check out Share Your Life Story for eight tips on how to get started.
- Cultivate a new interest or skill: Our communities in Shoreline and Crista Shores in Silverdale have groups that meet to play cards, do puzzles, work in a woodshop, paint in an art studio, and exercise. Joining a group is an easy way to learn new things, but you can also sign up for puzzles on the New York Times or listen to a podcast.
- Keep a Gratitude Journal: Listing three things you’re grateful for each day will add joy to your life.
- Attend a live musical or theatrical performance: Support your local artists by tipping them at outdoor markets, attending a concert or theatre, or going to a performance at your local high school or college.
